Possessed Persons

For players who do not wish to portray a Reincarnated Individual, the Possessed Person serves as an alternate character archetype.

Unlike Reincarnations, Possessed Persons are ordinary humans who possess no dormant connection to the souls of the ancient gods, demons, yokai, cryptids, or legendary beings that perished during the Records of Ragnarok. Instead, they become the living vessel of one of these surviving spiritual remnants after coming into contact with a lingering fragment of its existence through cursed relics, forgotten shrines, spiritual anomalies, forbidden rituals, or other supernatural phenomena determined through roleplay.

Rather than awakening through Self-Realization, a Possessed Person gains power through forced coexistence with the entity residing within them. This relationship can vary greatly depending on the character and the possessing spirit. Some vessels willingly embrace the entity in exchange for power, others struggle constantly against its influence, while a rare few exist in an uneasy partnership where both souls pursue a common objective.

As the possessing spirit grows stronger, the vessel's Qi becomes saturated with corrupted Yin energy, giving rise to a Corrupted Manifestation. Unlike the graceful evolution experienced by Reincarnations, this transformation is violent and unnatural, gradually reshaping the user's aura and physical appearance to resemble the possessing entity rather than enhancing their own identity. Horns, claws, monstrous eyes, spectral markings, distorted limbs, or other mythological traits may emerge depending on the nature of the spirit.

Possessed Persons do not awaken Divine Armaments. Instead, they manifest a Corrupted Armament- a weapon born from the possessing entity's hatred, obsession, or lingering will. These armaments are twisted reflections of legendary artifacts, embodying the darker aspects of their mythology while serving as extensions of the possessor's influence over the vessel.

Although Possessed Persons can wield immense power, that strength comes at a cost. Every use of corrupted Qi deepens the bond between host and spirit, increasing the risk of the possessing entity asserting greater control over the vessel's thoughts, emotions, and actions. Whether the vessel ultimately dominates the spirit, is consumed by it, or learns to coexist with it is a story left entirely to the Roleplayer.

The Possessed Person archetype exists as the thematic counterpart to the Reincarnated Individual. Where Reincarnations achieve power through understanding themselves, Possessed Persons gain strength by confronting, or surrendering to the will of another. Neither path is inherently stronger than the other, offering two distinct journeys through the world of Nexus Break.
