Mellow
"She called me her experiment. I called her my god. I don’t know which one of us was more accurate."
“I’m not afraid of the monster in me. I’m afraid of how much I need it to feel alive.”
“Every time I close my eyes, I hear bones cracking — sometimes I think it’s just my memories breaking again.”
The Wendigo
“She caged us, fed us, broke us, and still you hesitate to bite back?”
“Let me out, Mellow. Just once. I’ll show them what it means to fear the dark.”
“You keep pretending you’re human… but I can still taste the truth in your blood.”
Basic Information
Character Name: Mellow Takahara
Age: 17 Years Old
Origin: Osaka, Japan
Birthday: October 31st
Gender: Male
Height: 5 Foot 7 Inches
Weight: 178 Lbs
Personality Type: Mellow Takahara is a haunting reflection of what happens when innocence is forced to live in the jaws of madness. When he was kidnapped by Tessa Koyami and taken to her hidden laboratory in Tokyo, his humanity was stripped away piece by piece as Tessa sought to prove the existence of the Wendigo curse. She experimented on him relentlessly, feeding him human flesh, killing and reviving him repeatedly until, after two days of death, he returned as a full Wendigo. His body was monstrous, but the cage she kept him in drained most of his power, leaving him a prisoner in both body and spirit. For seven long years, Tessa studied and tortured him until she found a way to force him back into human form. Even so, he remained confined to his cell, his only company being her voice through the glass and the small hatch that delivered his food. Now seventeen, Mellow has never stepped outside since the night he was taken. Years of isolation and psychological torment have left him quiet, reserved, and eerily composed. His voice is soft and deliberate, every word measured as if spoken through the fog of restraint. He watches more than he speaks, his eyes following every motion, every breath, as though he’s still being studied. Beneath that calm, however, lies something broken; the beast that whispers from the corners of his mind.
The Wendigo within him is not just a curse, but a living presence that hungers for freedom, speaking to him when he’s alone and clawing at his sanity when emotions surge. His control over it is fragile; anger, fear, or even the scent of blood can cause his claws to grow, his breath to frost, or his voice to distort into a chilling growl. Despite the horror he’s endured, traces of the boy he once was remain. He hums old lullabies without knowing why, stares in wonder at colors he hasn’t seen since childhood, and thanks machines out of habit, as if they were people. These fleeting glimpses of innocence make him appear gentle, almost kind; but that kindness is what keeps the monster within from taking over. He yearns to experience the world again, to breathe free air, and to know if his parents are still alive. Yet deep down, he fears what might happen if the Wendigo ever escapes his control. Mellow is a being caught between two worlds, man and monster and victim and weapon. His voice carries the calm of someone who has seen too much, but behind his quiet eyes burns the hunger of something ancient, waiting for the day when his chains finally break.

Crimson Prayers Of Restraint: The Crimson Prayer of Restraint is a string of twelve large blood-red beads, each engraved with faint runic markings that shimmer faintly like pulsing veins when exposed to moonlight. The cord binding the beads together isn’t ordinary thread—it’s woven from spirit-tethered sinew, created from the remnants of a curse seal Tessa engineered using both human and essence from a previous creation. When worn, the necklace feels unnaturally warm at first, as though alive, before cooling into a rhythmic pulse that syncs with the wearer’s heartbeat. Each bead represents one of the twelve primal hungers of the wendigo spirit—hunger, rage, despair, desire, envy, sorrow, blood, frost, silence, fear, instinct, and void. When Mellow’s transformation begins to spiral out of control, these beads flare with a deep crimson glow, releasing controlled bursts of sealing energy that suppress the monstrous energy threatening to overtake him. When his wendigo power spikes, the beads rotate slightly and hum, releasing thin streams of red mist that coil around his chest and throat like chains, pulling his energy inward. If Mellow resists the necklace’s restraint or uses too much power, the mist tightens, inducing pain as a reminder of its dominance, this is a failsafe Tessa designed to ensure her “creation” remained under control.
Weapon: Whatever He Can Grab
Power Information
Main Ability: The Starved Veil: A rare and terrifying transformation-based ability that grants Mellow the cursed traits of a Wendigo, an ancient spirit of famine, frost, and the earth’s forgotten hunger. Unlike the traditional Wendigo of legend, the Wendicrux is a sentient being that stands between humanity and primal monstrosity, able to shift between human and monstrous form at will. In human form, he retains his rationality, though faint traces of the curse is always present such as elongated shadows, cold breath, and high moments of unstableness in personality. This sudden change in DNA granted Mellow mastery over Earth and Ice, the two elements born from its cursed essence: the cold of eternal hunger, and the soil that entombs the dead. Together, these powers give the Wendicrux dominion over terrain, temperature, and terror itself. Also as a wendigo, Mellow's life force goes in tandem with his healing, as such; his ability to heal through consuming flesh helps him when it comes to such things to a point where some will believe Mellow is immortal unless they actually cut his head off or stab him directly through the heart with fire hot enough to melt through his demonic ice heart. While he doesn't commit cannibalism on live beings, he does eat corpses of other humans and eat the flesh of animals rather they are cooked or raw which keeps his healing capabilities active. As such, he isn't able to regrow limbs like a leg or an arm without rest BUT if a limb is broken or twisted; for example, if someone grabs his leg, Mellow can completely twist his leg in order to deliver a blow to escape and his body will retwist it fast enough for him to use it almost instantly. Consuming live beings can make him more powerful, but since he's never done it in he isn't aware of the power that comes with eating live humans.
Transformation(s)
*
Partial Wendigo: In this state, Mellow stands between humanity and monstrosity, a fragile balance where the Wendigo’s curse has not yet fully consumed his form. His body begins to subtly distort as his curse starts to change it. Small antlers begin to protrude from his skull, blackened at the tips like scorched bone. His eyes dim to a cold pale silver with a faint glowing. His nails sharpen into jagged claws capable of tearing through flesh and stone alike. His breath becomes visible, every exhale a mist of frost, and his voice carries an echo. While still recognizable as human, his aura shifts dramatically: nature recoils, animals flee, and nearby soil blackens under the pressure of his curse. He also gains heightened reflexes, amplified senses, and a hunter’s instinct. The cursed bioenergy sharpens into a weaponized aura, enabling faster movement through terrain and deadly precision in close quarters. Yet, restraint is critical; the more he indulges his hunger, the closer he comes to losing control and slipping into his true form.
*
Full Wendigo: In this state, Mellow's body undergoes complete metamorphosis, his skin turns an ashen gray while his chest is lined with exposed bone-like rib armor resembling a ghastly cage. A massive, bleached deer skull replaces his face, adorned with towering antlers that twist like branches. Beneath hollow sockets burn violet eyes, pulsing faintly with malevolent hunger. A shroud of thick, black fur and feathers drapes across his shoulders and back. The Wendigo’s physique is lean but powerful, in this form the ground decays where he steps, and the sound of creaking bones follows every motion. In battle, the full Wendigo becomes a living calamity, capable of manipulating earth and ice with feral instinct. Antlered tendrils of frozen soil can erupt from the ground, while their claws rend through both armor and spirit. The creature feeds not only on flesh but fear itself, devouring the energy of despair to strengthen its cursed form. At this stage, humanity is nearly lost; only immense willpower or the restraint of sacred seals can return Mellow to normal. To witness this transformation is to stand before the hunger of the earth made flesh, a god of famine and frost born from the sins of cannibalism.

Techniques
*
Blue Tree Meadow: An ancient Earth technique born from the cursed of the wendigo, this technique channels cursed bioenergy into the forest itself. When activated, the trees exude a thick, dark mist infused with Mellow's corrupted essence, a toxin of despair that seeps into the minds of intruders. Those who inhale it are consumed by illusions of their deepest fears, forced to relive memories twisted into nightmarish visions. The mist attacks both body and mind, breaking its victims through dread until they lose all will to fight or live. This technique can be used in tandem with Yūin Ekō as a devastating trap, creating a prison of terror where even the strong crumble. Mellow can alter the mist’s range and potency, but the danger lies in its nature.
*
Cursed Ground Snare: A sinister Earth technique developed by Mellow to immobilize and torment his prey. By channeling cursed bio-energy into the soil, he transforms the ground into a living trap infused with malevolent intent. Once done, the cursed terrain conceals invisible snares that lie dormant until triggered. When prey steps within range, the ground erupts with antler-like tendrils of solid earth, twisting upward to ensnare and bind the target in an unbreakable grip. The cursed energy woven into the soil drains the victim’s strength and warps their perception, leaving them disoriented as they are dragged deeper into the ground’s cold embrace. Mellow can control the snares remotely, tightening, dragging, or restraining the victim at will; making the Cursed Ground Snare both a trap and a death sentence. Within a forested environment, the earth itself is dangerous, waiting patiently for its next victim to step too close.
* Earth's Home: With this technique, Mellow can phase through his surroundings, allowing him to quickly avoid an incoming attack and can travel undetected as well. Using this method of approach, Mellow can execute a surprise attack on his enemy(s).
*
Wendigo's Camo: Mellow controls the reflection of light around his body using energy, causing his form, shadow, and even breathing to become invisible to the unaided eye. Because he perfectly blends in with his surroundings, Mellow can sneak up behind an enemy without being noticed. Since both hia appearance and scent are camouflaged, his presence can only be revealed by the sounds he make.
Weakness
* Mellow's control weakens the farther it extends from his body.
* Because the cursed earth is linked directly to Mellow’s bio-energy, destruction or purification of that earth sends feedback through his body. If the constructs are shattered violently or purified mid-connection, the resulting recoil can momentarily stun or paralyze him.
Sub Ability: Wendimirage: An advanced and haunting ability that allows Mellow to create illusions so vivid, they cross the boundary between imagination and reality. Unlike typical illusion arts that merely trick the senses, Wendimirage weaves his malevolent will and hunger into the illusions themselves, giving them partial physicality and emotional influence. Every illusion under this ability is born from Mellow's malice, hunger, and trauma; manifestations of the Wendigo curse that echo as ghostly reflections of their mind. These mirages can distort perception, inflict real harm, or devour the sanity of those ensnared within them. The ability is a perfect fusion of psychological warfare and supernatural horror, blending spiritual deceit with primal instinct, a hunter’s illusion given flesh.
Techniques
*
Yūin Ekō: A sinister sound-based technique designed to lure, deceive, and disorient prey through the mastery of cursed bio-energy. By infusing this energy into his vocal cords, Mellow gains the ability to perfectly mimic any voice or group of voices he's heard; matching tone, cadence, and emotion with chilling accuracy. The primary purpose is psychological manipulation. He projects these false voices across great distances, using them to draw victims into ambushes or traps. The mimicry is so convincing that even those familiar with the imitated person cannot tell the difference.
* The Screech Of The Kewok: A illusion technique created by Mellow, using energy to turn scream into a powerful force of pressure. When at point blank range, the person(s) trapped in the scream will simply be blown back with little to no damage unless more destructive force is used. However, just hearing the screech alone will put someone under an illusion.
*
Mist Of Phobos: A technique in which induces fear unto others via a mistlike substance produced from the mouth. Mellow focuses his energy in his stomach and slowly bring it up through his mouth as a breath which releases the mist, meaning he can induce fear simply by breathing onto his opponent. It is unknown when this technique is about to be used until the target sees a misty substance being produced from the mouth. This only gives the target a couple seconds to retreat as the actual effect takes place from the smell which follows almost immediately giving off the stench of death.
*
Fear Inducement: From his right eye, with a mere gaze, Mellow can induce intense fear and paranoia in his target, plunging them into a nightmarish mental state after making eye contact. Victims experience hallucinations of their deepest fears, making them susceptible to panic and terror. This fear can be so potent that it immobilizes the victim, rendering them incapable of rational thought or action.
*
Dreadwalker: From his right eye, Mellow can actually manifests the fears of the victim(s) into the real world only after the victim has already been engulfed by one of the three prior abilities, as Mellow is then able to tap into the victim's deepest fears and phobias. He can then shape these fears into tangible, nightmarish entities known as "Dreadwalkers." These manifestations are eerie and grotesque, embodying a more twisted representation of the victim's worst nightmares. They may cause physical harm, psychological distress, or even induce life-threatening situations. Victims are forced to confront their fears head-on, making escape or resistance exceedingly difficult. As the victim becomes more scared by what they envision, The Dreadwalkers can transfer their fear and negative emotions back to Mellow, bolstering his power and intimidation factor. This exchange of fear can further weaken the victim while enhancing the user's abilities.
Weakness
* Since the manifestations he summons depend on the user, he has no control over what appears which means this can potentially backfire on him and suffer the same fate as the victim.

Background
Mellow was born on a quiet winter morning in Kyoto, Japan, to a loving couple; Nitara and Shinsuke Takahara, simple artisans who ran a small workshop specializing in handcrafted prayer charms and ceremonial masks. His childhood was gentle, filled with the warmth of home-cooked meals and the soft hum of his mother’s voice as she carved charms to ward off evil spirits. Though money was tight, the family’s bond was unshakable until the winter of his ninth birthday. That was when Tessa Koyami came into their lives. A mysterious woman posing as a researcher from the Tokyo University of Anthropology, she had been traveling through Kyoto studying legends of the “Jikininki”; a mythical creature said to have been born from a greedy, selfi, or impious person forced to consume human flesh after death. The creature was a lot like the one she studied while she was on vacation in North America, the Wendigo and wondered if they were the same creature of something different. The Takahara family thought nothing of her strange interests, until the night Mellow vanished.
On a snow-covered evening, Mellow was walking home from a local shrine when a van stopped beside him. Before he could react, a sweet scent filled the air, and his world went black. When he awoke, he found himself inside a cold, metallic room, far from the wooden floors of his Kyoto home. The faint hum of machines echoed endlessly through the corridors. He was in Tessa Koyami’s underground laboratory, hidden beneath an abandoned hospital in Tokyo. There, he became “Subject W-03”, the third of Tessa’s human trials to uncover the truth behind the curse. She was convinced the ancient spirits of hunger could be replicated through science and energy fusion, and Mellow was her chosen vessel. For years, Tessa pushed his body and mind past the brink of death. Using the method of the Wendigo, she force-fed him human flesh, claiming it was a “purification ritual” to awaken dormant primal genes. Though, when his body had negative effects during the experiment, she killed him, only to watch him rise again two days later, transformed into something unrecognizable. She was expecting something that still looked mostly human but with slight supernatural features, but what she got was something else entirely. His human form was gone, his voice was gone, all that remained was a creature with bone antlers, a skeletal mask resembling the skull of a deer, and glowing eyes.
Thankfully for Tessa, the containment cage she engineered drained his energy and kept his power very low, leaving him docile enough for continued study. For the next seven years, she continued her twisted research, documenting every twitch, every pulse, every growl he made. She called it “progress.” When she finally managed to revert him back to a human form, Mellow was fourteen but even then, he was never released. Instead, he was kept inside the same glass cell, his life measured in routine feedings through a small compartment and the occasional wordless stare from behind reinforced glass. He learned to stop screaming, stop asking “why.", and in that silence, he began to listen to the faint heartbeat of the monster within him.
Now seventeen, Mellow has spent over half his life in captivity. His body has adapted to the curse; the Wendigo sleeps beneath his skin, whispering through his veins like cold wind through pine. He has never seen the world beyond the lab since that night in Kyoto. Sometimes, when Tessa walks by the glass, clipboard in hand, he can still feel the faint warmth of hatred stirring inside him. Other times, he wonders if there’s even a world left for him to return to. When he stares at his reflection in the glass, he sees both faces, the frightened boy he once was, and the monster she made him become. And deep down, in the frozen pit of his soul, a promise lingers: “When I escape… you’ll see what true hunger looks like.”
